BD’s Aluminium collection is crafted with sustainable aluminium producer Hydro to support practical needs and the environment. The collection uses the recyclable, lightweight, durable, non-corrosive, and visually pure characteristics of aluminium, to say more with less.
The well-defined beauty of the collection began in 1973 with the Hialina shelf by Oscar Tusquets and LluísClotet that incorporated extruded aluminium and a simple silhouette into a new design vernacular. Then came the Cornisa shelf, which called to the past while remaining lightweight and functional. The restrained and unembellished forms spread vertically with the iconic Hypostila, later inspiring Konstantin Grcic's Table B in 2005. Table B harnessed a light top that could be arranged and customised into the lived reality of domestic or industrial spaces.
The collection features high quality aluminium and environmentally-conscious profiles made in collaboration with Hydro in Navarra, Spain. The aluminium is 95% recycled (75% of aluminium is recycled post-consumer scrap that arises from the disposal of products after they have been used, and 20% is from recycled pre-consumer scrap that arises from the initial production of the aluminium). The remaining 5% of aluminium is produced with renewable energy sources from water, wind and solar. The aluminium in the collection has a reduced carbon footprint per kg of aluminium of less than a quarter of the global average. Its silhouettes promote an austere yet contemporary attention to the environment while preserving function and style.
